Wayne Bridge announced today he will not be able to help out the Queen this summer in Africa.  He claims that he is doing this to better the team, after the sopa opera that followed the alleged affair between former Blues teammate John Terry and Bridge's former lover Vanessa Peroncell.

"Sadly therefore I feel for the sake of the team and in order to avoid what will be inevitable distractions, I have decided not to put myself forward for selection."

"I have today informed the management of this decision. I wish the team all the very best in South Africa."

I definitely resepect Wayne's decision and admire what he's doing to take away the awkwardness that would be present in the British lockerroom.  However, couldn't he have made this decision sometime last month?  Since the scandal hit the media, we've had statements from JT, Vanessa, and Fabio Capello, along with a stripping of the captaincy from Terry.  If he wanted to really help the team, he would've drown this thing a long time ago.  Especially since he and Vanessa were not even really together.  Do you think he handled it the right way?

John Terry "Screwed" Out of Captaincy

The English Federation has announced that John Terry has been stripped of his captaincy amidst all of the controversy over the past week involving his affair with former teammate Wayne Bridge's ex-wife. England manager Fabio Capello has decided to give the captaincy to Man Utd.'s Rio Ferdinand in hope of giving the national team more of a gangsta mentality instead of the playboy vibe they have gotten lately from Terry. John Terry, captain of club and country, has been a very controversial figure for quite some time. When he was younger, he was fined by Chelsea for mocking American tourists staying at the same hotel as the team in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. He also cried like Cristiano when he missed a pk. Now, he is in trouble for sleeping with his teammate's(Wayne Bridge) baby-momma(and wanna be Posh Spice) Vanessa Perroncel. This does have little to do with soccer, but Fabio Capello, the coach of England has to make a decision. He is more than likely going to have both Terry and Bridge on England's World Cup team. Now these guys are grown men and can handle being teammates, but I think that Terry should be stripped of the captaincy should Bridge make the team. It would be hard for Bridge to follow Terry's orders and Terry may have a problem giving Bridge orders. Give the captaincy to Lampard or Rooney and call it a day.
