No wonder we sucked

In the summer of 98 I was 11 years old. Soccer was my life, literally. All I did every damn day was play soccer. That summer was the summer of the World Cup hosted by France. I always followed the same national teams. USA was always first, because I was born and lived there, and if I was ever going to play in the World Cup, it would be for USA. (HAHAHAHA, its nice to dream) Portugal was always second, as that nation holds my family's heritage. There was no Portugal in that World Cup because of a dubious red card given to Rui Costa against Germany that still pains most Portuguese supporters. This left me to root for USA whole-heartily.

USA sucked in that world cup. Lost to Yugoslavia(they were still one country then), Iran(yes, Iran has a soccer team, see) and Germany. The reason why they sucked? John Harkes, "captain for life" of USA, was left off the team because of "leadership issues." IT took 12 years to find out what those leadership issues were: sleeping with Eric Wynalda's wife! Thats totally f'ed up! This situation totally screwed that whole team's chemistry. Harkes is a douche. There's lines not to be crossed, and sleeping with your buddy's wife is one of them. No wonder why USA sucked in 1998.

Hopefully the same thing will happen to England this summer. That would be a huge advantage for USA. Totally worth the read.
